A Solitary Unboxing – Gearworks (Deluxe)

Welcome to another unboxing! I haven’t done one in awhile, but the meeples at OSG have had several Kickstarter projects arrive in the past week or so (and some to come!) so we’ll be doing quite a few of these this month. Today I’m showing off Gearworks (Deluxe) by PieceKeeper Games!

Here are the 2 items I got with my pledge. The Deluxe edition comes with a box sleeve and some goodies inside (that I’ll explain where they come in below). I also (such a surprise) got the playmat!

BASE (DELUXE) GAME

This is everything that comes in the deluxe edition of Gearworks. The molded, plastic insert is specific to the deluxe edition.

All the cards, including contraptions, gears, and player cards. The deluxe edition came with a few extra contraption cards. They feel really nice!

These are the bits for the game. The wooden sparks and punchboard parts come that way in every edition of the game, however the gear tokens are unique to the deluxe edition (with the gears in the regular edition being punchboard like the parts).

ADD-ONS

This playmat is honestly one of the best-looking ones I’ve gotten. The placement of the spaces with the art actually meshes together really well (as opposed to others I have where the spaces are just on top of the art, haphazardly so sometimes). My only complaint is that the playmat was rolled art-side in so the edges curve up (you can see it on the right side in the image above) but that’s easy to remedy with some weight training, lol.

I’m really excited to get Gearworks to the table (especially since it has a solo mode!). Did you pick up this game from KS or GenCon? If you’ve played it, what do you think of the game? Feel free to tell us your thoughts in the comments here or on social media!

Game on!
