How Did Sarah Get Into Gaming?

Hello, I’m Sarah, AKA The Confuzzld Meeple, AKA Marti (The Fluffy Meeple’s) partner.  Since Marti & Scott have already done introductory posts, I figured I should as well.

I started out with video games, like Duck Hunt, Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, & Crash Bandicoot. As a child I also played some board games with family & friends: Candy Land, Connect Four, Scrabble, & Trivial Pursuit. I was pretty good at Trivial Pursuit & in high school, I joined the Academic (Quizbowl) Team. After high school, I continued with an Academic Team when I went to get my Bachelor’s Degree at Virginia Tech.

While I was there Academic Team advisor introduced us to some of the well-loved classics of hobby gaming: Lost Cities, Fluxx, & Settlers of Catan. He also introduced us to other lesser known games like The Great Dalmuti, Chrononauts, Rook,  & Kill Doctor Lucky.

After leaving Virginia Tech, I didn’t have as many opportunities to play games, but enjoyed the random Apples to Apples games I would take part in. I joined a bar trivia group & they held a meetup to play Mexican Train Dominoes every few weeks.

Eventually I met the love of my life, Marti. She had a game shelf in her apartment & I recognized some of the games. We started out playing Lost Cities & then she introduced me to some of her favorite gateway games, including Takenoko, Codenames, & Forbidden Island. After we moved in together, we played many more games & we would have game nights with friends. We would play Pandemic, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Lords of Waterdeep & Dominion. Then we stepped things up to Tokaido, Onitama, Worlds Fair 1893, & Viticulture. We also play lots of game apps like Star Realms, Patchwork, & Paperback.

We love gaming together, whether it is just the two of us or with groups of friends. I hope to make occasional posts on the Open Seat Gaming site and to learn more about board games and everyone who plays them.

Game On!
Sarah
